Exploring Sound

These wonderful instruments can be found in the garden of Beatroute Arts, Glasgow. Created for the young musicians who make music at Beatroute, this year, I have been incorporating these instruments into my Exploring Sound activities with the young people I work with on the ‘Take a Bow’ project. Working with sound, the timbres of different instruments and objects and using exploration as a way into building musical patterns and rhythmic structures is exciting work. Sharing ideas and new discoveries; working with call and response, repetition and imitation; creating musical form and structure as a group and placing value on every musical contribution is at the core of this work and, similarly, at the centre of the creative group music making process.
